15 Minute Read

Every month we will be identifying one information pack for you to read and increase your awareness of LGBT issues. This, combined with our hashtag #InformedCare, aims to make our services more inclusive for LGBT patients and staff.

November 2020 - Reflections of a Network Chair

If you've ever wondered what it is like being the Chair of an LGBT network, here's you chance to find out. Committee member Emma draws on her experience to reveal the skills needed and also considers some of the challenges and benefits of taking on the role.

Back in July we launched two new CPD resources and we set a challenge to see if we could get 1,000 certificates issued before 31 October. Did we do it? We're too excited to hide the fact we achieved this, but you can find out the actual number, and discover what next, in this edition.

October 2020 - Celebrating Black History Month

Each year we celebrate Black History Month in October. Committee member Ella takes a look at some famous famous names from entertainment, sport and politics. There are also lists of books, films and podcasts for you to explore.

August / September 2020 - Celebrating Five Years

With Covid-19 restrictions still in place we were not able to celebrate our fifth birthday in the way we wanted to. Chair and Deputy Chair, Alistair and Kirsten, made a presentation to outline some of the highlights, achievements and funny moments from the first five years of the national network. Check this out and we hope it makes you chuckle!

June / July 2020 - Pride!

Sadly this year, with the cancellation of Pride events, many people won't be getting together to celebrate all things LGBT this summer. That doesn't stop us staying in touch and finding new ways to connect and celebrate. In this issue you will find full details of how to join in with NHS Virtual Pride on Friday 26 June.

April / May 2020 - Staying Connected

In a change to the advertised edition, members of the committee talk honestly about the current situation and look at the support that is available, and how we can support each other. We also recognise Lesbian Visibility Week and celebrate this by telling the stories of four members of the network.

Also in the edition, look out for offers and a draw to win a Covid Blues-Buster Pack! We hope this 15 Minute Read will make you smile.

March 2020 - Celebrating Trans Day of Visibility

Trans Day of Visibility is celebrated internationally on the 31 March each year. We look at the origins of this event and why it is important. You can also find out more about the work undertaken by the National Ambulance LGBT Network to support transgender patients and staff.

February 2020 - Our LGBT History Icons

Each February is LGBT History Month and the perfect time to reflect on the past and how far we have come. So this month we asked the National Ambulance LGBT Network committee to think of their icons and favourite events and write about them for this month’s 15 Minute Read.

Also this month, check out our International Women's Day resource and find out about some LGBT women who have added colour to our world.

January 2020 - Recognising Holocaust Memorial Day

This month we have replaced the rainbow star of life with the pink triangle as we explain the origins of this important symbol and impact it had on so many lives. Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on the 27 January each year and marks the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
